About Me
Elyse Fitzgerald is a Sydney-based composer and pianist, with a particular penchant for string writing. Her unique sound is inspired by the likes of some of the great composers before her such as Hans Zimmer, Chopin, Tchaikovsky—and exhibits a wonderful synthesis of styles that defies genre boundaries.
She pursued her long-term passion for writing and her curiosity of the human mind, by completing her Bachelor of Music with a sub-major of composition and psychology. These intersections inform her writing with a personable, emotionally attuned edge.
Elyse is an artist who uses music as a medium to connect with others emotionally. She seeks to create music that tells stories of shared human experience – in particular those of emotional unease, in an effort to express solidarity through art, and elicit comfort for those in times of emotional disquiet.
She is fascinated by and passionate about the composite of music and movement, in both the film and dance mediums, and aims to work across both applications in the near future.
Her love for music started at the piano, where she completed her 5th grade AMEB piano level and 3rd grade theory qualifications.
One of her most notable works is a piece for chamber orchestra titled “Deep in Space” that explores the density, depth and grandiose nature of all things we do and don’t know of our universe. It draws influence from Zimmer’s “Interstellar” score and is one of her most engaging works yet.
In 2023, Elyse won the prestigious Penrith Symphony Orchestra WSU Composition Prize. Her work “Lost and Found” has its premiere at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on the 30th of July.
